Netflix’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie arrives with high reviews

Netflix has released one of its latest original movies: El Camino: A Breaking Bad Story. As its name suggests, the movie is based on the Breaking Bad television series, telling the story of character Jesse Pinkman after he escaped from his imprisonment at the end of the TV show’s run. The movie has only arrived, but it has already received high reviews from viewers.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie was released on October 11, giving Breaking Bad fans their first new content since the television series ended in September 2013. The new movie was written and directed by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan.

In addition to its release on Netflix, the movie is being screened in select theaters in the US, giving it a somewhat wider distribution than usual. As well, the movie will soon also be made available on AMC, the network behind the television series.

The movie has barely been available for 24 hours, but many reviews have already started rolling in. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives the movie a 94% ‘Fresh’ score on its ‘tomatometer,’ while the audience rating sits a bit lower at 87%. The general consensus among many critics is that the movie isn’t exactly necessary, but it is ultimately a welcomed addition that keeps the same style and tight writing of the series.

People new to the Breaking Bad world should watch the series before firing up the new movie. The film follows character Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in the time after the television show came to its end. A few familiar characters have returned to the series, but Heisenburg is nowhere to be seen.
